According to Bild, Klopp has decided to temporarily remove Kimmich from his right-back position for the German national team, returning him to his preferred central midfield role from his club career, while he will continue to captain the team. Klopp made this decision after meeting with Kimmich during his first visit to Bayern Munich at the start of the Bundesliga season.

Joshua Kimmich's role at right-back has been a point of contention in the past. Former coach Julian Nagelsmann frequently used Kimmich at right-back, including during the disappointing World Cup in North America. Nagelsmann seemed to have hinted to Kimmich that he would return to midfield from the round of 16 onwards. However, Germany was eliminated by Paraguay on penalties in the final round of 32.
Germany's right-back position has long been a weak link, and now they need to find a solution again.
