Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß said that Eberl has become more open within the club and communication has increased significantly in the past six months, and Bayern completed its signings early this summer.
"I think Max has become much more open within the club in the last six months," Hoeness said on Monday night while attending the 80th anniversary celebration of Bayern Munich's basketball division. "All of us—including Rummenigge and me, of course, as well as Hainer—are getting much more information from him than before."
Before these positive changes occurred in the past few months, Hoeness had said that Eberl was "working somewhat like an island" at Bayern.
"That didn't satisfy us," Hoeneß said. "But he fundamentally changed that. He did an excellent job in that respect."
Just before the German Cup final against Stuttgart at the end of May, Hoeness publicly criticized Eberl. In an interview with Der Spiegel at the time, he said that there were indeed "doubts" about Eberl's job and that he believed there was only a "60% to 40%" chance that Eberl would get a contract extension.
However, at the end of July, during preseason training at Lake Teigen, Hoeneß stated that the possibility of Eberl renewing his contract had risen to "100%".
Hoeneß has now revealed that this statement has caused him "a lot of trouble" within the club.
He said, "But if I had said 80% that day, the trouble would have been much bigger. So it was an answer that was a choice between two evils."
